Climate Change Fund will help to recover watersheds
14/12/2009
- The minister of the Environment, Carlos Minc, said on
Friday (December 11) that the National Climate Change Fund,
sanctioned last week by President Lula, will also be applied
in recovery of watersheds in the state of Rio de Janeiro.
The resources will be invested in research and actions for
mitigation and adaptation to climate change.
"The
fund will have resources amounting to R$ 1 billion and will
prioritize preventive and recovery actions initially in
the Northeast and along the coast. Therefore, the state
of Rio will be benefited", said Minc.
Carlos
Minc took part in the ceremony in which the Rio de Janeiro
State Water and Sewage Company (Cedae) transferred money
to the State Environmental Institute (Inea), from the fees
for the use of raw water. The value is part of the agreement
between the Cedae and the government of Rio for the management
of the state water resources.
It
will be transferred to Inea, in 2009, credits estimated
at R$ 4 million. From 2010, the funds transferred by the
Cedae will be approximately R$ 20 million per year. The
funds will be collected to the State Water Resources Fund
to promote actions for the protection and recovery of watersheds.
