ALAN WOODS APPOINTED TO
ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION AND ADVISORY
Environmental Panorama
London – UK
January of 2005
14/01/2005 - On Monday
10 January Environment Minister Elliot Morley
announced the appointment of Alan Woods
as the new Chair of the Environment Agency’s
Regional Environment Protection Advisory
Committee (REPAC) for the Anglian Region.
REPAC provides advice and guidance on functions
such as water quality, waste, industrial
regulation and land quality. Alan Woods
is an environmental policy and business
strategy consultant who lives in Cambridgeshire.
He is a member of the Chartered Institution
of Water and Environmental Management and
was formerly a director of the Country Land
and Business Association. As an existing
REPAC member he acted as temporary Chair
following the resignation of Kay Twitchen
on her joining the main Board of the Agency.
He has now been successful in the nationally
advertised recruitment exercise to find
a permanent replacement.
The Environment Agency has several committees
which act as a two-way channel of communication
and contribute to the decision-making process
of the Agency. The committees help to build
stronger links between the Agency and those
with whom it works, especially businesses
and their associations.
People with an interest in the environment
are currently being sought to join the Regional
Environment Protection Advisory Committee
(REPAC), the Regional Flood Defence Committee
(RFDC) and the Regional Fisheries Ecology
Recreation Advisory Committee (RFERAC) for
Anglian Region. Organisations wishing to
nominate a person, or individuals wishing
to nominate themselves or someone else for
membership of either committee, should telephone
08708 506506 during working hours and ask
for Erica Baldwin. The closing date for
nominations is 31 January.
The Environment Agency is also holding
two open evenings on Thursday 13 and Wednesday
19 January between 4pm and 7pm at its Regional
Headquarters in Orton Goldhay, Peterborough.
The Open Days are an ideal opportunity for
people to find out more about the work of
the Environment Agency and how they could
get involved.
