11/03/205 - The Minister
for the Environment and Heritage, Senator
Ian Campbell, will attend a ministerial roundtable
on energy and the environment in London next
week.
The roundtable, hosted by the United Kingdom
as Chair of the G8, will focus on action on
climate change beyond the Kyoto Protocol.
"Australia's objective is to work with
other members of the international community
to advance our shared interests in finding
a global response to climate change,"
Senator Campbell said.
"This conference is another important
step towards our goal of getting all of the
world's major emitters of greenhouse gas,
including the United States, China and India,
to agree on common approaches."
Senator Campbell will chair a ministerial
panel session on the development of low carbon
energy systems.
Nineteen other nations, including Russia,
Japan, the United States, Brazil, Canada and
India, will attend the conference on Tuesday
and Wednesday.
