05/05/2005 - Local residents
and businesses in Weston-super-Mare are being
encouraged to find out more about flooding
with a series of Environment Agency events
in the town.
The Environment Agency flood warning team
will be opening up their mobile trailer at
a variety of sites in Weston-super-Mare next
week, giving advice on the measures people
can take to reduce their risk of flooding
and the impact it can have.
Local people are being invited to come and
ensure they have all the information they
need to save themselves and their property
if a high tide affects the town.
The events are being held at B & Q on
Wednesday May 11 from 10.00am – 2.00pm, the
Aldi car park on Thursday May 12 from 9.30am
– 2.00pm and the following week on Weston
seafront on Thursday May 19 from 9.00am –
3.00pm.
"Climate change experts say flooding
could become more common in the future. People
cannot afford to be complacent, particularly
in an area such as Weston-super-Mare that
has a history of flooding. Our officers will
be on hand to answer questions and all residents
are invited to drop in to find out more about
the flood risk in their area," said Vanessa
Dare for the Environment Agency.
Further information about the Environment
Agency’s flood warning service is available
on its free 24 hour Floodline 0845 988 1188.
