27/06/2005 - Members of
the public have an ideal chance to find out
more about flood defences in Somerset, Wiltshire
and Dorset next week at a meeting organised
by the Environment Agency.
The Wessex Regional Flood Defence Committee
is being held at The Walton Park Hotel, Clevedon
at 10.30am on Monday, July 4.
A special feature of the meeting is a public
session where local people can attend and
raise issues relating to items on the agenda.
Questions are submitted in advance and each
member of the public is then invited to speak
for a maximum of three minutes.
Topics on the agenda include flood defence
finance, recruitment, catchment flood management
plans, the national flood forecasting system
and incident and flood risk management.
Mark Rice for the Environment Agency, said:
"This is a good opportunity for people
to bring forward questions, concerns, opinions
and even congratulations that they want to
share with us. As well as the committee, there
will also be our own flood defence specialists
available to share their knowledge."
The flood defence committee meets four times
a year and members represent local bodies
including councils and Defra.
Anyone wishing to attend and to submit a
question should contact Sarah Harding on 01392
442184 or by email sarah.harding@environment-agency.gov.uk
by 2pm on Friday 1 July.
