07/06/2005 - Environment
Agency Wales will be launching its initiative
"Write About Swansea - Our Green City"
at the Eco Zone of the Swansea Show on 29
May. This is part of our preparations for
celebrating World Environment Day on June
5, 2005.
Our initiative aims to encourage people of
all ages and abilities to engage with the
natural and built environment of the city
and county. It is an opportunity for them
to express themselves through the medium of
the written word and to communicate their
feelings and aspirations for the environment
of Swansea.
"Write About Swansea – Our Green City"
will be launched at the Eco Zone of The Swansea
Show at 12.30pm on the 29th May. The launch
will include performances from some of Swansea’s
own artistic talent reading their own and
others work:
Rhian Morgan – star of Mine All Mine, recently
performed at The Grand in Amazing Grace.
Helen Griffin - writer of plays for radio
and stage, also performed in her one woman
show "Caitlin" to great acclaim
and made an appearance in "Twin Town".
Nobsta Nutts – one half of the Swansea Hip-Hop
rap duo The Headcase Ladz who will be performing
at Glastonbury this year and whose album "Get
a Life" is released on June 13th 2005.
Nobsta has also worked with acclaimed folk
group "Fern Hill".
As well as being a celebration of the city
and county, we hope that it will also serve
as a social/historical document. A selection
of entries will be chosen for publication
in editions of the South Wales Evening Post
and in an Environment Agency Wales booklet
that can be seen at libraries and museums
throughout the county. All entrants will be
entered into a raffle prize draw. The prizes
will all relate to the county of Swansea and
the surrounding area.
Environment Agency Wales World Environment
Day pledges will also be a central theme of
this year’s Swansea Show Eco Zone.
Rhodri Thomas, External Relations Officer
for South West Wales said: "We have worked
with local artist Mike Hill to produce a visual
representation of support for World Environment
Day: each pledge made will be represented
by a leaf that will be attached to a ‘tree
of life’ that forms one of the supporting
pillars of the Eco Zone marquee. You can watch
the tree burst into life as the people of
Swansea demonstrate their commitment to making
the world a better place."
