15/07/2005 - Greg Hunt
MP, Parliamentary Secretary with Ministerial
responsibility for the Australian Bureau of
Meteorology, and Kym Richardson MP, Federal
Member for Kingston, said that from today,
marine forecasts for the Adelaide Metropolitan
Waters, Goolwa and adjoining Lakes will now
be available to the public twice a day, seven
days a week.
Mr Hunt said this was a significant upgrade
to the previous service that provided information
only on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
"This new service will now give a high
percentage of mariners in South Australia
access to this advanced service seven days
a week. This will further assist them to undertake
safe and profitable marine activities. It
will also be a bonus for many recreational
fishers and boaties who often frequent the
waters during the week," Mr Hunt said.
"I thank Kym for his commitment to delivering
these services to the people of Kingston.
He has worked hard to ensure that quality
meteorological services like these new marine
forecasts are delivered to his electorate
of Kingston."
Mr Richardson said the new service will be
issued at 6 am and 6 pm each day of the week.
"Observations and six-hourly forecasts
will also be provided for point locations
in the Adelaide Metropolitan, Goolwa and adjoining
Lakes areas. These include Outer Harbour,
Port Noarlunga, Hindmarsh Island and Cape
Willoughby," Mr Richardson said.
"This highly detailed service, available
in both tabular and graphical form, will supply
forecast information more than two and one
half days ahead of the initial issue time.
"This new method of providing weather
information will assist boat users in making
crucial safety related decisions."
