Auckland, This Sunday
at the Saint James Theatre, Auckland will
be transformed into an underwater world hosting
bands, artists, DJ's and VJ's, all in commemoration
of the 20th anniversary of the bombing of
the Rainbow Warrior.
More than just a tribute concert, the event
will be a sound and visual experience that
both commemorates a sunken warrior and celebrates
the achievements of Greenpeace over the past
20 years.
Visual Artists from the Axis of Weevils will
project images onto two large screens inside
the theatre throughout the night. Jacqui Brown
will MC the event with DJs and VJ's keeping
the crowd moving through the changeovers.
Stilt and light walkers will move through
the crowd.
In their only Auckland concert of this visit
John Butler Trio will headline the bill which
includes Steriogram, The D4, Che Fu, Don McGlashan
and John Segovia, Opshop and Wellington band
Rhombus. Don McGlashan is expected to be joined
by special guests on the night to perform
the anniversary commemoration song 'Anchor
me'
Under the art direction of Allan Green, the
St James Theatre will be transformed into
living art. From the moment guests enter the
theatre's smoked glass doors, they will find
themselves in underwater vision. Through a
combination of theatre sets from the Whale
Rider, light, smoke and artistic genius, they
will come face to face with a replica of the
original Rainbow Warrior as she can be found
now on the bottom of Matauri Bay.
The Multi Media event will also be a celebration
of New Zealand's nuclear free status.
"Sunday night is more than just a concert;
it's a commemoration and a real celebration
of what we kiwis can be so proud of: being
nuclear free," said Campaign Manager
Cindy Baxter.
