in Malaysia Promise to Feed the Young Environmentalist’s
Passion and More!
UNEP is inviting children all over the
world to participate in a wide range of
exciting environmental activities in 2006.
Beyond the environmental and cultural value
of these activities, the Children and Youth
programme promises prizes worth more than
US$3000 in total and travel to exotic locations
to promote the environment.
Celebrate 2006 With UNEP’S Prizes for Children’s
Paintings
This year, seven lucky children will receive
a fully sponsored trip to the main World
Environment Day celebrations in Algiers,
Algeria on 5 June 2006. In addition to the
trip, the winners will receive a cash prize
of US$ 2,000 (as the global winner) and
US$ 1,000 (as one of 6 regional winners).
There will also be a wide range of other
prizes available for runners-up.
The International Children’s Painting Competition
on the Environment is organized annually
by the United Nations Environment Programme
(UNEP), Japan-based Foundation for Global
Peace and Environment (FGPE) Bayer AG and
Nikon Corporation. It has been held since
11000 and has received over 160,000 entries
from children in over 100 countries.
On its fifteenth anniversary this year,
the competition will focus on the theme
of Deserts and Desertification. Children
- who will be between the age of 6 and 14
years on World Environment Day 2006 ( 5
June 2006) - are being invited to express
their hopes and fears about the future of
the world's deserts and the issue of desertification
in general in this year's International
Painting Competition on the Environment.
The global competition as well as regional
competitions will be organized in cooperation
with partners in the regions. Preliminary
selection will be done by UNEP Regional
Offices and their partners while the final
selection will be done by UNEP, the Foundation
for Global Peace and Environment (FGPE Japan),
Bayer AG and Nikon Corporation...
Entries must reach the relevant UNEP regional
offices by 20th January 2006 at the latest.
Join 250 Children at the UNEP Children’s
Conference in Putrajaya, Malaysia in August
2006.
Child delegates from the world over will
represent their countries at the UNEP International
Children’s Conference on the Environment
in Putrajaya, Malaysia from 26 to 30 August
2005. All Children are invited to submit
their applications.
Approximately 250 delegates (10-14 years
old) from around the world are expected
to participate. The Conference will enable
the children learn about the environment
through plenary sessions and hands-on workshops
and fieldtrips. The children will share
their views and concerns about the environment
and will prepare individual commitments
and a petition to world leaders expressing
their concerns and vision. The themes for
this year’s conference are: Conservation,
Forest and Biodiversity, Healthy Communities
and Recycling.
Sponsorship may be available for participants
(accompanied by a chaperone) from developing
countries.
Children are encouraged to apply immediately
as the deadline for application is 31 January
2006 and only a few places are still available.
