06/03/2006- On Wednesday,
8 March, Joan Walley MP and Steve Morley
from the Environment Agency, the Major (Mark
Meredith) and Councillor Neil Dawson of
Stoke-on-Trent City Council, will be amongst
those at Tunstall Community Centre, High
Street, Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent to launch
the Cleaning & Greening Stoke campaign,
at 09:00.
The campaign will encourage people to take
a responsible attitude to their waste and
let residents know how they can dispose
of it safely and legally. It will also encourage
people to report any incidents of illegal
waste disposal to the proper authorities.
Joan Walley MP, commenting on the campaign,
said: 'As an MP, I constantly get complaints
about the amount of litter everywhere in
public places. In parks. In back alleyways.
People complain about litter from takeaways
or about industrial and commercial waste
not being properly disposed of.
' I want all of us in this city to work
together so that we all have pride in keeping
it clean. But legislation and council action
is only a part of the picture. If we are
to really "clean and green" our
city then we need the support of everyone.'
Steve Morley, Environment Agency Area Manager,
said: 'I am delighted to be working with
Joan and Stoke-on-Trent City Council on
this campaign. The people of Stoke deserve
to live in a clean and healthy environment
and this will complement our work to tackle
commercial flytipping in the area.
