31/03/2006 - Help shape the future
of your community by having your say on the Caldew
and Carlisle City flood alleviation scheme.
The Environment Agency is holding
a series of public consultations to allow residents,
businesses and councillors from Carlisle city centre,
Denton Holme, Dalston, Caldewgate, Shaddongate and
Willowholme to play an active part in how their
community is protected from floods in the future.
Display boards will outline the
options for reducing the flood risk and point out
the advantages and disadvantages of each. Environment
Agency staff will be on hand to explain the options,
answer your questions and listen to your comments
and suggestions. United Utilities and Carlisle City
Council will also be represented at several of the
venues.
Project Manager Jonathan Griffin
said: "We welcome the views of local residents
and we want them to be involved in choosing the
option that most suits their needs. This display
takes into account the opinions of those who attended
the first display in May last year and builds on
the work we have done since then. It is an opportunity
to find out more about the scheme and to tell us
what they think will work best to protect the area."
The venues for the public consultation
are:
Sands Centre, Hardwick Circus
Carlisle – Monday 3 April and Tuesday 4 April 12noon
– 8pm.
St James’ Parish Rooms, Denton Holme – Wednesday
5 and Thursday 6 April 12noon – 8pm.
Victory Hall, Dalston – Monday 10 April 12noon –
8pm.
Ukrainian Association, Caldewgate – Tuesday 11 and
Wednesday 12 April 12noon – 8pm.
The Caldew and Carlisle City scheme will start in
2008 and will be completed in 2010.
