11/04/2006 - Mike Pratt of the
Northumberland Wildlife Trust has been appointed
as a new member of the North East Regional Fisheries,
Ecology and Recreation Advisory Committee (RFERAC).
The committee advises the Environment
Agency in the north east, Yorkshire and the Humber
on the maintenance, improvement and development
of fisheries, conservation, navigation, ecology
and recreation.
Speaking about his appointment
Mike said: “My interest in the RFERAC committee
stems from my conservation work, including my
hands-on experience of wetland and watercourse
management.
“I am particularly keen to get
people at all levels involved in conservation,
and I hope that my role as chief executive of
the Northumberland Wildlife Trust, and also my
past work with the National Parks, the Forestry
Commission and local government, will be useful
to the committee.”
Mike’s first RFERAC meeting
will be on 26 April at the Environment Agency’s
Phoenix House office in Leeds.
The Environment Agency has several
committees which act as a two-way channel of communication
and contribute to its decision-making process.
The committees help to build stronger links between
the Agency and those it works with, especially
businesses and their associations.
The Environment Agency is the
leading organisation for protecting and improving
the environment in England and Wales. It is responsible
for making sure that air, land and water are looked
after by today’s society, so that tomorrow’s generations
inherit a cleaner, healthier world.
