- The Environment Agency is inviting members of
the public to the next meeting of the Environment
Agency Board, being held in Liverpool this week.
The meeting, on Wednesday 12
July at the Radisson SAS Hotel, is preceded by
a ‘Meet the Board’ session at 9.30am when people
will be able to discuss agenda items with Board
members. People can then stay and observe the
meeting itself, which starts at 10.30am, if they
wish.
The Environment Agency holds
regular open Board meetings at different locations
around England and Wales. The day before the meeting
in Liverpool, Board members will visit various
sites in the Merseyside area to learn more about
the environmental issues affecting the region.
Environment Agency Chairman
Sir John Harman said: "We feel it’s important
for us to get out and about, so we can see for
ourselves the environmental issues people face
all over the country. We also believe that it’s
important for our meetings to be held in public,
so people can have the chance to see our decision-making
in action and if they like, ask us questions beforehand’.
"It’s particularly appropriate to be visiting
Liverpool as it prepares to become European Capital
of Culture in 2008, as there is obviously a lot
of regeneration of the urban environment going
on alongside that."
Agenda items will include the
recent Environment Food and Rural Affairs Select
Committee report on the Environment Agency’s role
and the delivery of this year’s planned flood
defence works.
