- Twenty four young people took part in a REEL
Project (Recreation and Environmental Enhancements
in Lincolnshire) fishing event at Langdale Lakes,
near Lincoln on Tuesday (9 August).
The event, equipment and coaching
were provided free of charge through REEL, which
aims to increase the number of people taking part
in the sport of angling.
REEL has also improved habitat
for fish and wildlife and has increased access
to the rivers and drains around Lincoln &
Boston.
Amanda Jenkins of the Environment
Agency said, ‘Twenty-four youngsters had a great
day out. Most of them managed to catch a fish
including some lovely Tench and Bream, not to
mention that giant carp that kept getting away.
‘Fully qualified angling coaches
where on site to teach the basic skills needed
to catch a fish.’
The event was part of “Go for
it in Lincolnshire”, a county wide initiative,
organised through Lincolnshire Youth Service who
deliver activities for young people during school
holiday periods. Enabling access to high quality,
positive and sustainable activities.
The REEL project is part
of the Lincolnshire Waterways Partnership and
is funded by Lincolnshire County Council, European
Regional Development Fund and the Environment
Agency.
