- The Environment Agency today welcomed the appointment
of three new board members - Larry Whitty, Suzanne
Warner and Andrew Brown.
Environment Agency Chairman
Sir John Harman said the new part-time non-executive
board members brought with them a wealth of experience
across varied public and private sector fields.
"I’m pleased to welcome
our new board members who will help take forward
the vital work of the Environment Agency. Our
role of protecting and enhancing the environment
in England and Wales has never been more important
and is increasingly at the forefront of people's
thinking" Sir John said.
"The calibre of new appointees
will ensure the good work of the outgoing board
members - Sara Parkin, Peter Matthews and Lynda
Warren - continues.
"Each of the new board
members brings a vast array of experience, with
Larry Whitty, a former Defra minister, now Chair
of the National Consumer Council and President
of the Combined Heat and Power Association.
"Suzanne Warner is a consultant
to a private sector initiative to improve the
delivery of humanitarian aid in natural disasters
and former Chair of the Trustees of Botanic Gardens
Conservation International.
"Andrew Brown will join
us fresh from his role as Chief Executive of English
Nature, from which he steps down at the end of
September."
Paying tribute to the outgoing
board members, Sir John said:
"Sara Parkin, Peter Matthews
and Lynda Warren, have shown great leadership
at a time when environmental policy and practice
has been pushed to the forefront of public concern."
He also welcomed the announcement
that Ted Cantle’s appointment as Deputy Chair
would continue until May 2008, and the reappointment
of Peter Bye and Richard Percy, for a further
three years.
Larry Whitty and Suzanne Warner
take up their appointments on 18 September 2006,
while Andrew Brown joins the board on 10 October
2006.
