Holly
Smith - 6-Nov-2006 - On 7 November 2006, an Environment
Agency team will get their hands dirty at Wolverhampton
Environment Centre and help out one of our local
partners, Groundwork Black Country, by upgrading
the entrance to the centre and thinning woodlands
nearby.
The 16 strong team will also
clear a pond and tidy the timber yard at the centre.
All members of the team have volunteered to take
time out of their day jobs and give something
back to their local environment.
Wolverhampton Environment Centre
(WEC) is a large site in the western suburbs of
Wolverhampton City. At the site there are nursery
buildings, classrooms, workshops, a timber yard
and woodland. The Centre is normally used by local
community groups, schools and disadvantaged groups
to learn about the environment.
Rob Lunt, an Environment Agency
officer leading the clean up at Wolverhampton
Environment Centre said; "I am really looking
forward to being involved in this clean up in
Wolverhampton. The whole team will be able to
give some time to improving our local environment.
We will help Groundwork Black
Country with added manpower to upgrade the entrance
to the centre and tidy the wood yard. Thinning
the woodlands will help to manage light levels
beneath the tree canopy, and in clearing the pond
we will remove any debris that has fallen in over
the summertime, to make the pond ready for winter."
