Brazilian Forest Service
enters the Ibero-American Model Forest Network
17/06/2010
The Brazilian Forest Service (SFB) represents
Brazil at the Ibero-American Model Forest
Network (IAMFN) since June 10, 2010. The
IAMFN promotes cooperation between Model
Forests from 13 countries, enabling the
exchange of knowledge and experiences between
communities, government institutions and
non-governmental organizations, for the
improvement of public policies related to
sustainable management of natural resources.
The entrance of SFB
was approved unanimously during the IAMFN
board of director's meeting, on June 10,
which followed the Ibero-American Model
Forest Seminar held in São Lourenço,
Minas Gerais State, on June 8 and 9.
A Model Forest has a
governance model that turns the interests
and needs of the communities into strategies
for the sustainable development. Currently,
the IAMFN comprises 25 Model Forests from
13 countries. In Brazil, there are two Model
Forests, both in Minas Gerais, being managed
by the Minas Gerais State Forestry Institute.
