Cancun - The United
Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and
Polar Cap Productions, Inc. (PCP) are pleased
to announce the COP16 screenings of Mark
Terry's new climate change documentary The
Polar Explorer
Renewing their partnership
first made for the presentation of PCP's
film The Antarctica Challenge: A Global
Warning for COP15 in Copenhagen last year,
the UNEP and PCP have once again joined
forces to present The Polar Explorer at
this year's conference to be held here November
29 to December 10, 2010.
Screenings will take
place at the Cancunmesse Exhibition Centre
and other venues in Cancun throughout the
conference. A special two-and-a-half-minute
trailer created for the COP16 screenings

The documentary reports
on new scientific discoveries made at both
poles - the Arctic and the Antarctic. Expeditions
made by the British Antarctic Survey and
ArcticNet were filmed in October and November
this year to provide the most current findings.
Achim Steiner, UN Under-Secretary
General and UNEP Executive Director, said:
"The speed at which the polar regions
are melting needs to be reflected in the
speed with which nations come to agree on
a decisive and definitive new global climate
agreement. While the science is speaking
loudly, it is often difficult for millions
if not billions of people to witness this
with their own eyes."
"This is the value
of the film The Polar Explorer," Mr.
Steiner added, "seen through the eyes
of the scientists on the front-line, it
brings the climate impacts at the poles
to audiences in the conference halls of
Cancun and the computers of the global public
in order to raise the alarm but also the
imperative to act".
COP16 delegates and
organizations wishing to book a screening
of reports from The Polar Explorer during
the conference are asked to contact Mr.
Terry by email at mark@polarexplorerfilm.com
or by calling Polar Cap Productions at 416-480-1996.
